Tunisia is the favorite destination of Algerians for various reasons, including tourism and health care. In total, 3,038,361 Algerians traveled to Tunisia in 2023, according to the Tunisian National Tourism Office in Algeria. This year again, more of them will travel to this border country, according to the first figures announced which reveal a clear increase compared to 2023.
To travel to Tunisia, Algerians mainly use the land route. In fact, 94% of them use their car or the bus. From now on, another means of transport will have to be put in place. This is the Annaba-Tunis train via Souk-Ahras which will come into service. Indeed, the launch of the railway line between the two countries is taking shape.
Thus, the resumption of the train between Algeria and Tunisia is announced for August 11. This was indicated on August 8 by the Tunisian Railway Company (SNCFT) in a press release published on its Facebook page.
” The rail link between Tunis and Annaba (Algeria) will be re-established from Sunday, August 11, 2024, with an exceptional departure from Tunis station at 8:00 a.m., marking the departure of the first commercial journey,” announces SNCFT, which informs customers that the second and third journeys will take place respectively on Wednesday, August 14 and Friday, August 16, 2024, also departing from Tunis station at 8:25 a.m.
Algeria-Tunisia train ticket prices
In detail, departures from Tunisia will take place on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 08:25. As for departures from Annaba station in Algeria, they will take place on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays at 09:00, according to the SNCFT. Intermediate stops in the directions will be in the Tunisian cities of Beja, Jendouba, Ghardimaou and the Algerian city of Souk Ahras.
Regarding ticket prices, the SNCFT reveals that a one-way ticket in second class will cost 38 Tunisian dinars, or the equivalent of 1,655 Algerian dinars, while in first class, it will cost 44 Tunisian dinars, or 1,917 Algerian dinars.
The price of a second-class round-trip ticket is 71 Tunisian dinars (3,093 Algerian dinars). In first class, it will cost 81 Tunisian dinars (3,529 Algerian dinars), with a mandatory reservation before the return. It should be noted that the train will be free for children under 4 years old, while those from 4 to 12 years old will be entitled to promotional rates.
