Last May, Algeria strengthened its cooperation with Italy in the energy field, by signing several agreements relating to the supply of electricity and the development of green hydrogen, among others.
According to an official at the central direction of new resources of Sonatrach, Mr. Mohamed Boutouchent, the Algerian public oil and gas group will launch two pilot projects for the production of green hydrogen in the south of the country in 2023 and 2024.
Boutouchent made this statement for Algรฉrie Presse Service during the 12th edition of the International Exhibition of Renewable Energies, Clean Energies and Sustainable Development (ERA), opened on Monday, October 24.
He explained in particular that “these pilot projects will have as their main objective the development of expertise and technological mastery of the entire value chain of green hydrogen from production, storage, transport, to apps.โ
The two pilot projects will also provide specific learning and have been designed in a complementary manner, according to the manager, specifying that “โ the mastery of the hydrogen chain, from production to transport will allow Sonatrach to consider a production of green hydrogen in the medium term.โ
Moreover, still on the sidelines of the show, the Netherlands, via their ambassador, said they were interested in partnerships with Algeria in the field of green hydrogen production.
