In a determined push to modernize its infrastructure, Algeria is committed to transforming the operations of its economic ports. On Sunday, Transport Minister Saรฏd Sayoud brought together all key stakeholders to establish a round-the-clock operational systemโ24 hours a day, 7 days a weekโin line with President Tebbouneโs directives from the latest Council of Ministers meeting.
During the meeting, the focus was on the need to streamline and simplify procedures to better manage the flow of goods. Attendees reviewed steps to bolster human resources, upgrade equipment, and roll out advanced surveillance systems. The goal is to ensure seamless coordination among all parties involved, maximizing the efficiency of port operations.
Algeria: Implementation Before the End of February
Saรฏd Sayoud stressed the urgency of putting these new measures into action before the end of February. Time is of the essence for Algeria, he noted, with every minute counting toward strengthening the countryโs strategic position in the global market. The minister emphasized the need to utilize all available resourcesโeven during holidaysโto maintain continuous operations at the six key economic ports identified by the President: Djen Djen, Algiers, Bejaรฏa, Annaba, Oran, and Mostaganem.
Speeding Up Ship Processing: A Top Priority
One of the main priorities is to accelerate the handling of ships. Achieving this requires close collaboration between port operators and institutional partners. Transport Directors and Port Authority heads have been instructed to monitor the implementation of these new procedures daily and submit detailed evaluation reports to the Central Administration every weekend. This regular oversight will allow for quick identification and resolution of any issues, ensuring the ports run at peak performance.
Beyond operational improvements, this initiative is part of a broader economic competitiveness strategy. By modernizing its ports and keeping them active nonstop, Algeria aims to streamline maritime trade and enhance its standing on the global stage. The government is showing its resolve to act swiftly and fully tap into the countryโs logistical potential, supporting economic growth and attracting more foreign investment.
