Algerian Minister of Youth and Sports, Sid Ali Khaldi, made remarks that sparked a heated debate on Thursday, October 22. During a meeting in Algiers, he called on parties that do not adhere to the new Constitution to leave the country. The web was quick to unleash itself against the declarations deemed “scandalous” by the minister. 

The campaign for the referendum on the constitutional revision project, scheduled for November 1, is in full swing in Algeria. The Minister of Youth and Sports, Sid Ali Khaldi, hosted a meeting to promote it this Thursday in the capital, Algiers.

During his speech, he blurted remarks that triggered an outcry: “For the first time since independence, we have entrenched the declaration of 1 ^st November and one who is not happy has to change countries ”, he launched, before insisting on the expression:“ to leave the country ”.

“Anyone who is not happy has only to change country”

This remark provoked the anger of many Algerians, who did not fail to post it, especially on social networks, by attacking the said minister in a virulent manner. For some, this controversial statement is too much slippage on the part of a state official. For others, it is an outright contempt for the population.

This outing comes the day after the decried gesture of the Wali of Oran, Messaoud Djari, who publicly humiliated a teacher during a working visit. The teacher in question called this manager to tell him about the shortcomings in the school where she works. In response, the wali turned his back on him in front of a large crowd of citizens and officials.
