Algeria, Minister of Infrastructure: Investments in Maritime Works Will Exceed Ten Billion Euros

The National Investment Council has approved the creation of a maritime works complex, responsible for carrying out public works and maritime infrastructure

The volume of investments in Algerian maritime infrastructure will exceed 10 billion euros in the next ten years. This was stated by the Minister of Infrastructure and Public Works, Lakhdar Rakhroukh, during the inauguration of the first section of the Oran road that connects the port to the east-west highway.

The State Investment Council approved at its 187th meeting the creation of a Maritime Works Complex (Gtm) responsible for carrying out public works and maritime infrastructure, which will support the transition of the national economy, particularly towards the promotion of exports beyond hydrocarbons.

Regarding the railway works, Rakhroukh stressed that “at the national level, six thousand kilometers of railway network have been completed and we aspire to reach 15 thousand kilometers”, adding in this regard that a special engineering unit has been created in charge of developing national connections to improve the mobility and connectivity of the territory at the national level.

The Algerian minister also reiterated his ministry’s efforts to connect “all the mines currently under study to the railway network, like the connection project with Gara Jbeilat which is at an advanced stage of completion” and whose delivery is expected by the end of 2025. On the occasion of his visit to the governorate of Oran, Rakhrokh also participated in the ceremony of laying the foundation stone for the completion of a tunnel at the level of the Arboretum traffic axis in the commune of Bir el Djir, inviting the workers to meet. deadlines of less than ten months, with delivery of the project by the end of June 2025. The project involves the construction of a two-lane highway 600 meters long, including 70 underground, at an estimated cost of 120 million euros.
