Forest fires have been recorded in different regions of the country, said statements from the civil protection services.
In the province of Tipasa (70 km west of Algiers), several outbreaks of fires were reported, especially in Gouraya, causing the death of two people, while ten others were rescued from suffocation.
Besides Tipasa and its surroundings, other departments in the center and west of the country have suffered the same fate, such as Blida, Bรฉjaรฏa, Tizi Ouzou, Chlef, Oran, Tlemcen; although in some places the fire is under control.
Faced with the scale of the disaster, elements of Civil Protection and the forestry services deployed major resources to fight against the flames, which were also fanned by the wind.
For the moment, the reasons for these simultaneous fires have not been identified, even if the criminal track would be privileged.
Usually, in Algeria and in the Mediterranean region in general, forest, bush and maquis fires do not go beyond the month of October. But the drought that the region is going through this year favors the start of fires.
