The announcement of the increase in international air and maritime connections is expected in the coming days. It should concern Air Algérie and Algérie Ferries as well as foreign airlines and maritime companies.
Air Algérie and Algérie Ferries are currently operating a small part of their regular schedule. Air Algérie resumed flights on June 1, 2021 but Algérie Ferries had to wait until October to resume crossings.
The partial reopening of the borders was not enough to help these two companies replenish their coffers. The number of connections granted to them by the government does not meet the strong demand, particularly from certain European countries, such as France and Spain.
Air Algérie and Algérie Ferries: partial recovery
Air Algérie operates about fifty flights per week, which represents less than 20% of its annual schedule. For its part, Algérie Ferries only has two crossings per week to France and Spain.
Speaking this week on the sidelines of his hearing by the Foreign Affairs Committee of the National People’s Assembly, the CEO of Algeria Ferries, Kamel Issaad, unveiled the commercial program for the summer period which is awaiting validation by the government.
Unlike Air Algérie, Algérie Ferries says it is ready to resume all of its crossings as soon as the agreement of the Algerian authorities is obtained.
Algeria Ferries: an ambitious program for the summer
“From June, there will be crossings from Béjaïa, Skikda, Annaba – if the ferry terminal is ready. We are ready to resume our normal program. In Algiers, we are ready to do up to four rotations per week. Oran – Alicante every day. Oran, Skikda and Béjaïa to Marseille once a week,” he explained.
“As of today, we are ready to make two to three rotations per week with the return of the ships for repair within a month,” said Kamel Issaad also.
The increase in the number of sea crossings naturally depends on the agreement of the country’s high authorities.
