Algeria: Colombian Meat on the Menu of Algerians during Ramadan!

Algeria could import meat from Colombia to cover its needs during the next month of Ramadan. It has already begun the process of importing large quantities of red meat from Colombia, according to the specialized Colombian media CONtexto ganadero.

“Algeria is in a hurry to acquire Colombian meat for the Ramadan period and this should speed up the export process,” said Augusto Beltrán Segrera, technical secretary of the Colombian Stabilization Fund for the Development of Meat Exports. of milk and its derivatives (FEP).

Algeria is expected to import up to 5,000 tons per year, which would place it among the five largest customers of the Colombian meat sector, according to the newspaper.

Augusto Beltran has already discussed with the commercial attaché of the Algerian embassy in Bogota about exporting to the Algerian market, the media reports. A memorandum of understanding was signed following a meeting between the health authorities of the two countries, adds the same source.

Through its embassy in Bogota, Algeria has already ordered a quantity of 500 tons for the urgent needs of the month of Ramadan 2023, reveals the same source.

Colombian suppliers will obviously have to certify their meat as Halal before sending their goods to Algeria.

To do this, audit visits will be carried out in the factories concerned. The Algerian authorities will also have to give their approval to the Islamic centers responsible for certifying halal meat, explains the same source.
