Here we go again for the tourist season in Djanet, this town in the Algerian desert which welcomes thousands of tourists from abroad each year, with the announcement from Air Algérie of the resumption of the Paris – Djanet airline.
“Resumption of Air Algérie flights from Paris -Charles de Gaulle- to Djanet. Do not hesitate to visit our website or one of our agencies for your reservations,” the national airline indicated on its website, confirming information given on Wednesday by the specialized site VVA.
To develop Saharan tourism, Algeria has implemented two flagship measures: an airline between Paris airport operated by Air Algérie and the town of Djanet and the issuance of electronic visas once arrive in Algeria.
Air Algérie: the Paris – Djanet line relaunched
These two measures have facilitated the movement of tourists from abroad to Djanet, as part of trips organized by travel agencies where nothing is left to chance.
The tourists arrive by Air Algérie plane to Algiers before resuming their flight, at night, to Djanet. Arriving in Djanet, they spend the night in a hotel, before heading into the desert in all-terrain vehicles for a trek.
After five days spent in the desert, they return to Djanet, and spend a second night in a hotel in the city, before taking a flight home the next day. Generally, stays in Djanet last seven days.
In 2023, more than 8,000 tourists from 70 different nationalities visited Djanet, a number up sharply by 60% compared to 2022, according to official figures.
Over the year, 14,000 tourists visited this little wonder of the desert and its Tassili N’Ajjer park, the world’s largest open-air prehistoric art museum.
