Air Algérie Acquires Tassili Airlines as Sonatrach Exits Aviation Sector

Air Algérie is expanding its operations by acquiring its subsidiary, Tassili Airlines, to establish a dedicated domestic air transport division. This move marks Sonatrach’s complete withdrawal from the aviation industry.

In a statement released on Thursday, Air Algérie announced the signing of a memorandum of understanding with Sonatrach Holding for External and Support Activities, facilitating the “transfer of ownership of Tassili Airlines to Air Algérie.”

The agreement outlines “precise regulatory mechanisms to ensure a smooth transfer process, fully compliant with regulatory requirements, guaranteeing seamless ownership transition and operational continuity,” according to Air Algérie.

This deal reflects “the mutual commitment of both parties to principles of governance, operational synergy, and strategic complementarity in the air transport sector,” the statement added.

The agreement comes just over two months after President Abdelmadjid Tebboune approved the creation of a national company focused on domestic air transport during a Council of Ministers meeting, as noted by Air Algérie.

This acquisition is a “strategic first step” toward integrating Tassili Airlines into Air Algérie, aligning with a “bold national vision to modernize and structure domestic air transport while enhancing connectivity across Algeria’s wilayas.”

Meta Description: Air Algérie acquires Tassili Airlines, creating a domestic air transport subsidiary as Sonatrach exits aviation. The move aims to modernize air travel and boost connectivity across Algeria.
