A New Solar Farm in Northern Morocco Soon in Service

After the wind farm of Oualidia which delivered its first green KwH during the first quarter of 2021, it is the turn of another project to come to strengthen the total Moroccan capacity in the production of electricity based on renewable energies.

The independent energy producer Greenpower Morocco 2 is preparing to bring into service the photovoltaic solar station that it has been developing for four years in northern Morocco, within the framework of Law 13-09 which began in the early 2010s. the real phase of liberalization of the energy sector in Morocco.

And it is precisely to the east of the city of Tetouan, that this actor has set up a solar farm with a capacity of 30 MW (roughly the same size as the wind farm of Oualidia) and which was equipped mainly with voltaic panels manufactured in Morocco, in this case by the Company Almaden Morocco in El Hoceima. According to the agreements made with the exclusive distributor of water and electricity for the Tangier-Tétouan region, the production of electric power by Greenpower Morocco 2 will be intended exclusively for the own use of the delegated manager Amendis-Tanger to satisfy its ancillary service needs. Estimated at around 67 GWh, the producible will also allow savings of around 40,000 TCO2 / year.

Remember that apart from the Noor Ouarzazate solar farms (580 MW in installed capacity), Noor Midelt (still under construction for a planned capacity of 800 MW) and the Ain Beni Mathar thermo-solar station on the Algerian border, the Tetouan solar station will be the first to emerge under the 13-09 regime.
