A Man Sets Himself on Fire in Front of the Moroccan Consulate in Madrid

A Moroccan in his forties set himself on fire on Tuesday in front of the Moroccan consulate in Madrid, police and diplomatic sources told AFP, without being able to indicate the motivations for his actions.

No investigation will be opened, explained this source as it is a self-inflicted act, although the police will still try to get in touch with his relatives. “He is a Moroccan gentleman, who is in his forties, and who is registered with the consulate,” the Moroccan embassy in Spain told AFP. “He did not enter the consulate. He presented himself in front of the consulate and quickly set himself on fire,” 

“People who were inside the consulate and others outside quickly came to his assistance until the ambulance arrived,” she said, assuring that she had “ no idea why he did that.” “I saw him running and there were people behind him trying to take off his clothes” on fire, told Spanish public television a witness named Rachid, who also said he saw a man running with him. a fire extinguisher to try to put out the flames.
