ALGIERS- Over 400 kg of cannabis resin was seized by units of the National Gendarmerie in Tlemcen (540-km west of Algiers), while four drug traffickers were arrested by a detachment of the People’s National Army in Oran (431-km west of Algiers) on Thursday, said the Ministry of National Defence in a statement on Friday.
“As part of the fight against smuggling and organized crime, units of the National Gendarmerie seized 434 kg of cannabis resin in Tlemcen (2nd Military Region), while a detachment of the People’s National Army, in collaboration with units of the Algerian Customs, arrested four drug traffickers in possession of 1.2 kg of cocaine in Oran,” said the statement.
In Bordj Badji Mokhtar and In-Guezzam (6th Military Region), Army detachments “intercepted an all-terrain vehicle and a truck loaded with 9.8 tonnes of foodstuffs and 6,240 packets of biscuits, and arrested 12 smugglers,” added the Ministry’s statement.
In Souk-Ahras, Tebessa and El-Taref (5th Military Region), units of the Border Guards “foiled attempts to smuggle 23,878 litres of fuel and seized two vehicles,” said the statement.
In Oran and Mostaganem (2nd Military Region), units of Border Guards “thwarted illegal migration attempts of 62 people aboard makeshift boats,” added the statement.
