“Scenes of derision”

The Conference of Bishops of France welcomes a ceremony that offers “wonderful moments of beauty, joy, and emotion .” However, the bishops of France deplore “scenes of derision and mockery of Christianity. “

“We are thinking of all Christians on all continents who have been hurt by the outrageousness and provocation of certain scenes,” they wrote in a statement, denouncing “the ideological bias of some artists .” The French episcopate did not, however, specify which scenes they were criticizing.

They also thank “members of other religious denominations who have expressed their solidarity with us. “

“Christianophobe”

In addition to the episcopate, certain scenes from the ceremony provoked strong reactions, such as from Marion Maréchal, who denounced a scene of drag queens reminiscent of the Last Supper, the last meal of Jesus Christ before his death.
