100 LIBYAN MPS MEET IN MOROCCO TO REUNITE PARLIAMENT

Members of the Libyan House of Representatives, whose two components are respectively in the capital Tripoli and in the city of Tobruk (in the east), will hold a consultation session on Monday in Tangier, in northern Morocco, announced on Sunday by the Moroccan Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

This session, which is being held at the invitation of the Moroccan parliament, aims to unify the legislative body of Libya, a country torn by war for nearly a decade.

“Members of parliament in Tripoli and Tobruk have received an official invitation from Morocco’s House of Representatives to hold a unified consultation session,” Mohammed Hanish, member of the House of Representatives in Tripoli, told news organizations.

He said the number of members of the Libyan parliament who intend to participate in the session from Tripoli and Tobruk will exceed 100.

According to him, this session is considered a prelude to another session to be held in the Libyan city of Ghadames, next week, without specifying the date.

Libya has been prolonged in a civil war since the fall of the former Libyan leader Muammar Gadhaffi in 2011. The situation escalated in 2014 with a division of the country between two rival governments whose forces clash militarily.
