Algeria denies reports of government reshuffle

The Algerian prime minister’s office denied on Tuesday reports of a cabinet reshuffle.

A statement by the premier’s office said information given by certain sources regarding plans for government’s restructuring or cabinet reshuffle.

The Tout sur l’Algérie (TSA) newspaper said this is the first time the government publicly and officially responds to rumours about a cabinet reshuffle.

The statement came after media and political sources said there was an imminent cabinet reshuffle and government restructuring including transforming the interior ministry to become the Ministry of National Security.

The reports came after Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika made minor cabinet reshuffle involving ministers of industry, trade and housing, two days after he had sacked former Prime Minister Abdelmadjid Tebboune and appointed Ahmed Ouyahia as prime minister.
