African Swimming Championships (Day 3): Two gold, one silver for Algeria

BLOEMFONTEIN (South Africa)- The Algerian swimming team won two gold medals and one silver on Tuesday, the third day of the 12th African Swimming Championships in Bloemfontein, South Africa.

The gold medals were claimed by Oussama Sahnoune in men’s 100m freestyle and by the women team in 4 x 100m freestyle relay, while the silver was won by Souad Nefissa Cherouati in women’s 400m freestyle.

After three days of competition, Algeria won nine medals overall (3 gold, 4 silver and 2 bronze).

Oussama Sahnoune, 24 years old, dominated the men’s 100m freestyle clocking 49.60, ahead of South Africa’s Calvyn Justus (50.21) and Egypt’s Mohamed Samy (50.29).

In women’s 4 x 100m freestyle relay, Algeria’s Sarah Hadj Abderrahmane, Rania Hamida Nefsi, Souad Cherouati and Amel Melih claimed the gold clocking 4:00.92, ahead of Egypt’s 4:06.62.

For his part, Cherouati ranked second in men’s 400m freestyle clocking 4:26.44, behind South Africa’s Caitlin Kat (4:24.74), and ahead of Jessica Whelan (4:29.68).
